ALLEGIANT STADIUM
Black and silver service
Inside Allegiant Stadium is where it matters
most. For the Raiders owners, the project put
great importance on fan experience, no matter
what their ticket price, or whether they are
season ticket holders or just flying in as visitors.
“The trend in NFL buildings is to provide as
much diversity of offering as you can so you can
reach as big a market as you can. This stadium will
have 10 various club offerings,” says Paul Griesemer,
associate vice president and senior project manager
at HNTB. “Being in the entertainment capital of the
world, all of these environments had to step up their
game from any other NFL stadium. It has to be on par
with a lot of entertainment competition in this town,
which it is.”
Manica Architecture was also responsible for
creating the interior spaces, with an emphasis on
mirroring the style of the stadium, brand of the team
and identity of Las Vegas through some never-beforeseen
features and suite design.
“We had as much fun doing the interiors as the
outside. There are aerodynamic ribbons flowing
through, we used a lot of black, white and silver, and it
feels like the interior of a sports car. We did some really
interesting things with the lounge areas. For the first
time, in any stadium I know of, we activated the suite
level concourse as a premium space rather than just
a hallway. We have lounge areas and open cooking
concepts and bars in the suite concourse area. The
suites also break away from the plain box. Just like
seats in business class on a plane where they fold
into and under each other to make more space,
we pushed and pulled the walls into each of the
other suites for a more interesting result than just
a shoebox,” says Manica.
Perhaps one of the most exciting additions for
any fan flying into Vegas for the weekend is the
inclusion of a nightclub located at the venue’s endzone,
which opens onto the field. This club can operate on
non-event days and is to be operated by one of the
leading casino operators in Vegas. It’s a one-of-a-kind
feature for a stadium and will no doubt work very well
for the Raiders in Vegas.
Despite the stadium’s production schedule running
head-first into the Covid-19 crisis, careful planning
and new strategies has meant it remarkably remains on
schedule for its July 31 completion date.
“We have implemented all of the Covid-19
protocols and guidelines established by the CDC and
state, local and federal regulations. We are even
exceeding Nevada’s regulations. We’re still on track
so it hasn’t affected schedule. It has been a wide effort
from various labor unions to make sure we’re keeping
everyone safe and advancing the job,” explains
Mortenson’s Eric Grenz.
When opening day comes Allegiant Stadium will
be one of the most exciting destinations on the NFL
calendar. As the Las Vegas Raiders enter a new era,
so too does stadium design. ■
