NASHVILLE SC STADIUM,
NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE, USA
Nashville Soccer Club (SC) will become
Major League Soccer’s 24th expansion
team when it enters the league for the
2020 season. Since the announcement
was made in December 2017 to award
the USL team entry to MLS, there has been
continued development of its stadium
plans. Set to be built on the city’s historic
Fairgrounds entertainment district, the
30,000-seater Populous-designed venue
will be the biggest soccer-specific
stadium in the United States.
Located two-miles south of Nashville,
the stadium project aims to spark a
revitalization of the area and will offer
amenities to involve the community
throughout the season and on nongamedays.
A focus on fan entertainment
sees areas on the outside of the stadium
intended to deliver a festive feel bringing
together soccer, music and food for a
different sporting experience.
To further enhance its Nashville
identity, its most recent design renderings
show the stadium constructed from
brick, steel and wood to match the
heritage of materials typically found
in its surrounding neighborhood of
Wedgewood-Houston. The stadium
build will also incorporate durable and
sustainable materials that help increase
energy efficiency.
The design takes the form of a
European-style soccer stadium, with
a steeply-raked seating bowl that places
fans close to the action for a heightened
atmosphere, and also features a
supporters section.
Its premium seating offering comes
in three forms with 160 field level seats
that are situated next to the on-field action
with views opposite the team benches;
club seating with a mid-field view; or
private suites which include catering
and dining experiences
Nashville SC is currently playing at
Nissan Stadium, which it shares with the
NFL’s Tennessee Titans, and is expected
to play its first two MLS seasons there until
moving into its new home. Construction is
to begin in the first quarter of 2020 and
is targeted to be completed by 2022. n
