production challenge. We are very pleased to
have renewed our long-term partnership with

e exterior of the arena is designed to be iconic,
spanned by a steel arc with a height of 76m
(249 ) and a weight of 480 tonnes, and its façade
consists of 8,000m2 (86,111 2) of glass. “But it is
not only its spectacular exterior, or its size and
capacity that make the Lanxess Arena one of the
most attractive locations for international shows
and concerts: state-of-the-art stage equipment,
a height-adjustable video cube and a
multifunctional interior level further distinguish
this exceptional arena,” says Rautenberg. ■

“In terms of reliability and exibility,
the products from our neighbouring city of
Wuppertal really are unmatched,” comments
Rebiszewski. “With its unparalleled scalability,
the Artist infrastructure is perfect for
multifunctional halls, which have constantly
changing requirements.”
Riedel’s Artist ecosystem has a modular
structure, so it can be easily expanded to match
the speci c conditions of various events. Rented
Riedel accessories – such as SmartPanels and
Bolero wireless intercoms – can be integrated,
which has been particularly valuable for larger
events and productions.

production team. At Cologne Sharks hockey
games, the communications system not only
connects production, camera, sound and lighting
sta , but also integrates referees, house
announcers and the DJ.
“Ice hockey allows for particularly spectacular
staging, but it also imposes exacting demands
on TV and event production,” says Niklas
Rautenberg, account manager at Riedel
Communications. “With our equipment enabling
clear and reliable communications between
all participants, the production team can now
present the Cologne Sharks games in an even
better light. With this Artist installation, the

THE ARTIST
ECOSYSTEM
Artist is a decentralised,
scalable digital intercom
network, created to provide
reliable communications and
audio signal distribution for
any audio or intercom
application. An Artist system
can be anything from a
single Artist frame to a vast,
fi bre-based and remotely
connected network of
nodes. Each modular node
contains client cards that
accept and distribute
different types of signals,
including SMPTE 2110-30/31
(AES67), VoIP, Dante, AVB, MADI, AES3 and analogue audio.
“At the present time, Artist is the only intercom platform that
talks all audio standards – and its modular architecture
facilitates the accommodation of future standards,” says Niklas
Rautenberg of Riedel Communications.
The system can be expanded from 8 x 8 to 1,024 x 1,024
non-blocking ports and, via inter-node trunking, can connect
several thousand subscribers within a single ecosystem.
“Scaling an Artist system is as easy as adding new client cards
to an existing node or adding additional nodes (Artist-32,
Artist-64, Artist-128, Artist-1024),” says Rautenberg. “With
the seamless integration of Bolero wireless intercom and
SmartPanel user interfaces, the Artist ecosystem provides
an unprecedented amount of flexibility and versatility, and
its decentralised infrastructure allows for a free placement
of nodes, which considerably reduces the wiring and setup
costs for any installation.”
