ESC INNOVATION 37
›Sensitivity, communication and control,
with steering, brakes and tyres in perpetual
conversation, are key elements of electronic
stability control (ESC/ESP), a technology which has
been mandatory for new passenger cars in Europe
since November 2011 and is, according to Daimler,
“by far the most signifi cant safety system of modern
passenger cars, and over the years has helped save
the lives of several thousand people”.
A Ford spokesperson told Vehicle Dynamics
International that the systems are ahead of the
curve at the moment, saying that, “Legislation has
been stable for almost a decade and current ESC
technology exceeds legislated minimum performance
by a large margin.”
