a five-vehicle version will be available
in the future using the same hardware.
VIPS is based on a standard GPSenabled
VBOX 3i, allowing it to work
inside or outside and seamlessly
transition between the two without any
interruption of the signals. VIPS is fully
compatible with all popular steering
robots and guided soft targets, and has
been successfully used in long tunnels
to accurately fill in for GPS, allowing
testing to continue even in satellite
denied areas.
Installation is extremely simple
as the VIPS beacons are completely
independent of each other and only
require a small amount of power. For
temporary applications, such as multistorey
car parks, the beacons can be
battery powered and mounted on tripods
around the edge of the test area. For
such situations, Racelogic has developed
a sophisticated self-surveying algorithm,
so that within an hour engineers can
be measuring speed and position to GPS
RTK levels of accuracy in places which
were previously off-limits for this kind
of testing, all with a compact system
which can be easily transported between
test sites.
Whether testing outside or inside,
there is now a single solution for the
measurement of position, speed and
distance, which has been developed
specifically for the automotive testing
environment. With this technology,
engineers can now conduct tests in
more locations than ever before.
