consultancy support on the delivery
of a key section of the High Speed
2 (HS2) rail line between London
and Birmingham, known as the C1
package. Align engaged Redline in
2017 to support on the project and
a dedicated security consultant has
worked in-house ever since as it has
progressed the design and started
pre-construction activities. A Notice
to Proceed was issued in April and
Align has extended its contract with
Redline for a further four years to
ensure security measures are fully
considered in the next phase of the rail
infrastructure project. www.is.gd/mugite
The National Manufacturing Institute
Scotland (NMIS) has awarded the
contract for the construction of its
new flagship facility in the Advanced
Manufacturing Innovation District
Scotland in Renfrewshire to Morrison

sending the waste to land ll, and forms part of an overall strategy in the area to
recycle more and recover more energy from waste.
The planning application is for a ‘state-of-the-art advanced technology’, which
will utilise non-recyclable ‘residual’ waste to produce power for the National Grid.
The facility will provide electricity for 75,000 Hampshire homes and create over
300 jobs during construction, plus 40 permanent roles once operational.
The 30 Megawatt plant is sized for residual Hampshire waste that is currently
land lled in the county, or exported elsewhere, it adds.
UK-based wireless telecommunications

a 472km² area, giving a combined total
power output of 1.4GW. Deployment of

Veolia has submitted a planning
application for an Advanced Energy
Recovery Facility near Alton,
Hampshire. According to the company,
the facility would save 65,000 tonnes of
carbon emissions a year, compared with
prior to installation on Hornsea Two, will
contribute to the successful progress of
the project. www.is.gd/zajibu

SKF pledges carbon-neutral factories by 2030
Bearings manufacturer SKF has announced that it is aiming to achieve a fully
carbon-neutral manufacturing footprint by 2030.
The company says that since 2015 it has decreased its manufacturing carbon
footprint by 36% and is already operating two carbon-neutral factories.
The 2030 target will cover SKF’s own manufacturing operations, that is,
SKF’s scope 1 and 2 emissions. It will be achieved by a combination of process
improvements, energy-e cient machinery, and procurement and generation of
renewable energy. As a last resort, SKF may also purchase ‘high quality’ carbon
o sets.
Alrik Danielson, SKF president and CEO, says: “Reducing emissions is necessary
to combat the climate crisis and as a global company it is important that we show
leadership. We strive to reduce the climate impact in the full value chain, from the
raw material we buy, to the customer’s use, and beyond. The responsibility to act
starts in our own operations – we will act with speed and purpose to achieve this
goal. Carbon neutrality will further improve our competitiveness.”
