ABB teams up with Yinson
ABB is to deliver complete electrical,
control and telecommunication solutions
to a new oating production, storage and
o oading (FPSO) vessel in the Marlim 2
oil eld in Brazil.
The company
has signed an
agreement with
energy solutions
provider Yinson
for electrical,
control and
telecommunication
equipment and services
on-board the FPSO Anna Nery, which
is bound for the Marlim 2 oil eld in
Campos Basin. Yinson secured the
contract to convert the 2002 crude
oil tanker, leading operations and
maintenance of the FPSO. The vessel
is planned to operate on the eld for 25
years.
Drawing on its ABB Ability System
800xA control system with select
input/output (IO), ABB says that it
will take responsibility for integration
engineering in the project, integrating
all the production modules onboard the
vessel into a combined Integrated Safety
and Control System (ICSS). According
to ABB, Select IO is an ethernetbased,
single-channel input output
system, where eld signals are digitally
marshalled in smart junction boxes.
ABB will perform all software
engineering in a cloud-based system
bringing the hardware and software
application together at a later stage
utilising Select IO digital marshalling. This
is said to improve interfaces for topside
production, safety systems, marine
systems, telecom packages, surveillance
equipment and electrical systems.

Two apprentices at the Coventry-based
Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre
(AMTC) have been appointed on to the
Women’s Engineering Society apprentice
board. First year apprentice Camila Rey
da Rosa and third-year Melissa Chigubu
have been selected to represent
the voices of female engineering
apprentices. Thirty-six-year-old Camila
is now a Level 3 mechatronic engineering
technician apprentice with Amazon,
with her training being delivered by the
