Move of the month
Cloud software company
Blackbaud has appointed
Margaret Driscoll as its chief
people officer. Driscoll will lead
all human resources functions
for the company, succeeding EVP
of HR John Mistretta as he retires
after 14 years with the business.
Driscoll comes to Blackbaud
with more than 20 years of
leadership experience in various
HR roles.
I knew Blackbaud was the
right place for me when…
After meeting several members of
the executive team, including
president and CEO Mike
Gianoni, and visiting Blackbaud’s
global headquarters. I was struck
throughout my discussions with
the consistency and emphasis
placed on the employees, and the
value Mike and the executive
team have for human resources as
a key strategic partner. I knew
this was a company I wanted to
join and call home.
I decided to make the move
because… Of the people and
the mission. Blackbaud’s mission
is to provide cloud software,
services, expertise and data
intelligence that empower and
connect people to drive impact
for social good. I was inspired by
the prospect of working with
these leaders and employees to
continue the great work fuelled to
power social good.
I’m most excited about…
Working for a company that has
a purpose and being able to
make a meaningful difference
as a leader, driving forward
with a talented and energetic
leadership team.
My biggest challenge in my
new role will be… In my first
few weeks it will be immersing
myself in the business and
learning what truly makes us
an amazing company.
The biggest lesson I’ve
learned from my previous
roles has been… HR
continues to evolve. We need to
be grounded in the facts,
understand the business drivers
and share our point of view. At
the same time we can never forget
employees are our greatest assets,
so compassion and understanding
are always important.
The toughest point of my
career has been… The
financial crisis of 2008. This was
transformation in action as
human resources teams needed
to shift from operational to
strategic. The trusted relationship
with the CEO became critically
important. Delivering as a
business owner, partnering on
solutions with leaders during a
time of enormous uncertainty
while keeping employees
informed, supporting each other
and continuing to deliver for the
clients. That was uncharted
territory for everyone.
If I achieve one thing in my
new role… It will be
maintaining all that is already in
place at Blackbaud and moving
it forward. John Mistretta has
built a world-class HR team,
which is evident by the national
recognitions Blackbaud has
received for its culture and
commitment to diversity,
inclusion and employee
empowerment. I look forward to
building, maintaining and
enhancing a culture that embraces
exactly what Blackbaud is today
and what it will be tomorrow.
