Welcome to the March edition of Comms Business. It has been a busy month here in the o ce
as we start the run up activity to our prestigious awards ceremony in June. e Comms
Business Awards is currently open for entry so make sure you get take a look at our new
categories and get those entries in now.
is month I managed to make it out to the Wildix Partner Summit in Barcelona to hear what the
vendor had to say to partners about updates to their platform and value selling program. eir CEO
Steve Osler is always pretty vocal about his competitors in the market and how they treat they channel
partners. See what he had to say on page 44.
e Coronavirus has been dominating the headlines this month and is
starting to impact the international technology exhibition scene. Mobile
World Congress has o cially been canceled by organiser GSMA after weeks
of updates which initially included a no handshake rule, extra hand sanitiser
and medical sta planned to be on site. Finally it was the major tech brands
which swayed the decision. After big brands like LG and Amazon pulled
their presence at the event the GSMA had no choice but to pull the
plug.
I dread to think what the nancial rami cations are as the event
reportedly injects £500 million into the local Barcelona economy
every year.
I would like to announce the Comms Business Free to
Perform Forum this month which is a new initiative designed
to bring partners together to discuss their challenges in a digital
forum. e forum, supported by 9 Group, will run through
this year and will include key industry data, research material,
bespoke content and much more to enable partners to overcome these
challenges. ere will even be three events this year where members
can gather in an informal setting to gain feedback from their industry
peers. If you turnover between £250k and £3m you are eligible to join,
you can nd out more about that on page 28.
I’ve been trawling through some of our weekly survey results
recently to add into the Channel Pro les supplement, you will nd
that with this issue. ere were some interesting ndings in there,
like many partners are still struggling with the race to the bottom
on price when selling hosted telephony. e Channel would rather
see the government spend our tax money on full- bre rather than
HS2 (currently estimated to cost £109bn). UK partners are also
unsure about the Avaya and RingCentral deal. If you want to get a
handle on what the market is thinking take a look at the Channel
Pro les supplement this month.
