TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR STADIUM
“The great thing about SCX’s solution is that the
NFL field is 1.5m 4.9ft below the natural turf pitch,
so there is no need to remove seating or change the
setup of the stands,” says Lee.
Sign of the times
The new Tottenham Hotspur stadium also features
LED screens alongside traditional static signage, which
allows stadium operators to create event-specific
information to be quickly displayed such as last-minute
changes, directions for fans, ticket information and
public messages.
“Immediately upon entering Tottenham Hotspur
Stadium, you are welcomed with a wall of video
targeted specifically for the fans and programmed
to kick off the excitement that awaits them inside
the bowl,” says Pete Egart, vice president of Europe,
Middle East and Africa markets for Daktronics.
There is a total of 93 displays, all designed and
delivered by US-based display specialist, Daktronics,
that offer what it calls a “street-to-seat” experience.
As soon as fans approach the stadium they are met
by two 2,500ft2 (234m2) displays mounted to the
stadium façade. Combined with 54 flag-style displays
and 17 single totem-style displays at the East and West
atriums, Paxton House ticket office, and the
auditorium, fans are shown content and signage right
up until they enter the seating bowl. When in their
seats, an immersive arrangement of displays surrounds
the fans with two 3,500ft2 (325m2) displays located at
the south end of the stadium, two 2,045ft2 (190m2)
displays at the north end, as well as three tiers of ribbon
displays circling the seating fascia showing game
information and branded content.
The pride of Tottenham
A 20-year master plan will see extensive regeneration
of the surrounding area, adding much-needed support
for the local community. The Tottenham Experience,
which includes an integrated retail facility and museum
that will incorporate the neighboring Grade II listed
Warmington House, is set to open in the coming years.
There will also be a 180-bedroom hotel in the
southwest corner of the site, which will double-up
as a training and educational facility.
Further down the line, locals and visitors alike will
be able to make use of an extreme sports building,
a community health center, a commercial space and
222 new affordable homes. In total, those behind the
stadium claim the full development scheme will
support an estimated 3,500 jobs in the local area –
1,700 of which are new.
Head architect Christopher Lee believes that stadia
such as this have a civic duty. “We wanted to create
a building that was outwardly-looking and part of the
community. The stadium feels like a new centerpiece
for Tottenham, as a well as a new home for the fans”. n
