R esponding to more
stringent health
and safety
regulations,
theaters
spearheaded the move away
from manual hemp and
counterweight sets to stage
automation. Now the latter
is seen as indispensable,
enabling flexibility throughout
the entertainment industry –
from permanent theater installations
to touring shows, from entry-level
solutions to complex show-specific machinery.
Alfa System has walked a similar
path. The Italian company was
founded in the 1980s, focusing
mainly on mechanical
engineering for theaters. Now
it develops solutions for the
wider entertainment industry,
offering carefully designed
products customized to any need.
Teatrul de Nord
The company recently contributed
to the renovation of Teatrul de Nord,
a theater in Satu Mare, Romania. The upgrades
include an automated rigging system with a set
of 25 CM zero-fleet theater winches, a turntable
and a curtain system with combined opening
movements, all of which is controlled by a
VisionR control system. The CM winches replace
manual counterweight sets, and were chosen
because of their compactness and versatility.
They can be mounted to the side walls and can
be serviced safely from the catwalks. As well as
supplying the machinery, Alfa System provided
engineering consultancy and commissioning
services, supporting its local partner Stage &
Showtech Management throughout the project.
The requirement
for innovative
engineered
motion solutions
has spread across
the entertainment
industry, as
illustrated by
several recent
theater, circus
and TV projects
