Ametek VIS’s Intelligent Control Module (ICM) is a
user definable control module that enhances
vehicle functionality via visual programming logic. The
ICM interfaces through dual CAN busses and 32
switched inputs to control power for up to 40 devices.
Utilising visual logic programming, the ICM interfaces
with multiple vehicle systems to sense and control
devices such as lighting, HVAC, radio, motors, solenoids,
and other devices on the CAN bus that alllow the user to
programme the vehicle behaviour they desire. The ICM
empowers users to leverage advanced diagnostics and a
wide array of inputs to enhance a vehicle’s telematics
systems with a more detailed view of its status.
In-depth
Utilising the built-in Simulink integration, the ICM offers
a more in-depth look at the vehicle’s system through
visual modelling and simulation. Users can model the
system connections and logic, and then automatically
generate code for the vehicle application. Additionally,
users can operate Simulink to perform tests early and
often in the development process and continually
develop the system. Customers have more control of
the system programming and they can not only define
the system, but also quickly make the programming
changes required to respond to their customers need for
customisation.
Diagnostics
The advanced diagnostics can be accomplished with a
stand-alone tool or become part of the vehicle’s
instrumentation, with an overall status display
highlighting any faults in the system and identifying the
zone/module reporting the fault. A detailed low-level
status display provides a scope-like representation of
the signals on both inputs and outputs. There are also
three LEDs for a quick visual status update on readiness,
faults and CAN. The LEDs will remain on solid, off or flash
to communicate the basic status of the ICM.
Customisable
The system, ICM coupled with Simulink, provides more
customisable capabilities by replacing fuses and relays
with smart power and SAE J1939 CAN communications,
ultimately offering more custom control of chassis
components. Through Simulink™, the ICM can eliminate
many small modules on the vehicle like speed switches,

complex flasher modules and interlock modules, while
providing better communication and a more robust
control of vehicle components. The ICM is an integral
part of the instrumentation system for communication
and control of vehicle components.
Requirements
The ICM provides four 50 amp power sections, 24
outputs capable of 10 amps, 16 outputs capable of five
amps, 21 switched to ground inputs, 12 programmable
switched inputs (ground or battery), four dedicated
analog voltage inputs, one dedicated resistive input, two
CAN ports, three status LEDs and one LIN bus. All of the
outputs are PWM capable. Designed for rugged
durability, the ICM is sealed to IP67 and IP66, and meets
all SAE J1455 and J1113 requirements for vehicular
instrumentation as well as ISO 16750, 20653, 10605,
7637 and 11452. iVT
