CAN UTILISE TO MAXIMISE THE
SAFETY OF PASSENGERS
Frasers Aerospace has been
working seven days a week
to ensure a regular supply of
Bacoban for Aerospace. It says the
disinfectant establishes a thin solid
gel nanolayer that lasts for 10 days
and passes Boeing tests.
“The biocides used to kill germs
and viruses are embedded in the
porous structure of the sponge-like
sol-gel and are washed
out slowly when
coming into contact
with water,” explains
Kevin Bishop, technical
manager. “After normal
cabin disinfection,
a single passenger
carrying a virus can
re-infect the aircraft.
This problem is reduced
by using Bacoban
for Aerospace.”
Under normal conditions, it is
recommended to use Bacoban
only on hard surfaces. However,
Frasers has introduced a fogging
formula that allows airlines to
treat entire cabins in a short time.
“Burn tests on the fabrics have
been completed now and there is
no effect on the flammability,” says
Bishop. “Bacoban is also suitable
for use on wood veneer and
leather – the latter has not
been tested but under these
circumstances it is accepted.”
Frasers is an aerospace
specialist, but says Bacoban
and many of its other
products could be used safely
in other settings such as
schools and shops – reducing
the need to disinfect items
between each person
handling them.
Antimicrobial products include
Airdal from Decorative Products,
described as a “self-disinfecting
antimicrobial coating” that lasts for
12 months. It forms an “ultra-thin”
layer of 100% transparent amorphous
glass. Meanwhile, Microban says its
portfolio of antimicrobial technologies
can be integrated in plastics,
coatings and textiles for the
aviation industry.
ANTIBACTERIAL CLEANER
Flitetec brought forward the
launch of MX14 Aero, an aviationgrade
water-based antibacterial
cleaner for soft furnishings,
leather and plastics, to help
combat the spread of coronavirus.
The product was to be launched
at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2020,
which has been postponed.
MX14 Aero was developed to remove ink and stains from
leather and soft furnishings, as well as interior parts including
plastics, while maintaining their fire-retardant properties. It has
just gained EN1040 certification for its antibacterial qualities.
“MX14 is formulated to not only comply with the required
regulations and conform to rigorous aerospace specifications,
it is the only cleaner in the industry to be 100% biodegradable,
with no chlorines, bleaches or solvents; leading the way to a
greener cabin and planet,” said Trevor Lea, managing director.
“All packaging is made of recyclable materials. It has refillable
dispensers, so no single-use plastic is involved.”
MX14 meets ISO9001-2015 and ISO14001-2015 standards,
tested to ASTM F484-08, F485-08, F1104-02 and F2109-01, and
CS/FAR 25.853 App F Part 1 (a) (1) (ii) and Part 1 (a) (1) (i).
