TIMELINE
Aeria has used 3D printing since 2014. “Our engineering
and certification teams created a design standard and
process specification for 3D-printed parts,” says Soret.
“Plus, we’ve done extensive testing on 3D-printed
materials, so we are able to use that application for
interiors. We’ve made armrests for various aircraft,
decorative pieces, connector brackets for wiring,
wall sconces, we’ve even 3D-printed vases and
had an artist paint them to look like ceramic.”
WINDOWS, LIGHTS AND IFEC
Other changes included updating the window
treatments. “The windows were in need of
refurbishment,” says Soret. “We replaced the inner
window panels with a new composite panel and
installed a new shade material. We also went through the
internal mechanisms and repaired and replaced as necessary.”
Cabin soundproofing was mostly retained, while lighting was
updated from fluorescent to LED. To meet the needs of connected
travellers, the aircraft was equipped with high-speed wi-fi as well
as IFE. “That was a late decision on the customer’s part,” says Soret.
“The customer chose the Gogo Avance L5 system, which offers wireless
connectivity and AVOD IFE. The system has been installed on a number
of aircraft and it’s a pretty straightforward installation. The biggest help
was that we had the interior apart at the time, so the installation wasn’t
a disruption to anything else that was going on.”
CERTIFICATION CHALLENGES
The aircraft was not previously certified in the USA for charter
operations, so the scope of work included meeting those certification
requirements. “It was purchased and registered in the USA but never had a new certificate of airworthiness, so there

was quite a bit of maintenance to be done
to bring it up to the current specification,”
says Soret. “For the certification, we obtained
a combination of STCs to eliminate the
limitation that the aircraft could not be
used for hire. We got our in-house team
working on it and received the certificate
of airworthiness in short order.”
Jet Edge expects the newly re-designed
BBJ to prove popular in its target market.
“We’re very satisfied with the results of
the VIP configuration,” says Adler.
“The business jet provides domestic and
international travellers maximum comfort
and privacy – optimal for both business
and leisure travel.”
In January 2020, Jet Edge acquired JetSelect
Aviation of Columbus, Ohio, to expand and
further diversify its fleet to more than 85
aircraft. The deal has expanded Jet Edge’s
fleet of large-cabin and
ultra-long-range Boeing,
Bombardier, Dassault,
Embraer and Gulfstream
types to include a bolstered
offering in the supermidsize
class, namely Bombardier Challenger
350/300 aircraft.
Heavy jet additions to the fleet include
Bombardier Challenger 604, Gulfstream G450,
Dassault Falcon 900EX and
Bombardier Global 5000
types. Jet Edge’s charter
fleet will now also include
Bombardier Challenger and
Gulfstream GIV/GV aircraft.
