don’t have to reach over sleeping
passengers to change the settings. Reading
lights can be adjusted by twisting them.
Aziz believes the focus on making
technology unobtrusive is one of the most
innovative aspects of the development.
“We have things that appear when you
want them and go away when you don’t,”
he says. “If I want to turn a shade on, that
should be a one-step process. I want to
reach for a button, touch it and it goes
on. I don’t want to have to pull out a
device or swipe anything.”
All the switches are tactile. “We want
to make sure they give positive feedback
when you depress them,” says Aziz.
The entertainment area features a
three-place divan across from a credenza
that can feature a 43in (109cm) fixed 4K
monitor. Customers who want to leave
the credenza top free, for food service
for example, can opt for a 32in (81cm)
fold-down monitor. The credenza can
With 195ft3 (5.52m3) capacity, the G700’s inflightaccessible
baggage compartment is a similar size
to that on the G650. Aziz says the size is driven by
certification standards. “You have to stay below 200ft3
(5.66m3) because if you go above that, then you are in
a different class of baggage compartments that require
fire suppression systems and so on,” he notes.
The compartment has tracks to enable operators
to plug in baggage netting.
also be fitted with a dual-zone wine chiller,
so that different types of wine can be kept
at different temperatures.
Next up was a six-place conference/
dining grouping. This area also has an
ottoman; when its top is removed its base
becomes part of the table.
ARMREST IMPROVEMENT
Gulfstream has also changed the armrest
style on its double seats. Instead of a single
central armrest that drops down to sit
flush with the seat base when not in use,
the double seats have independent
armrests that pull down from the backrest
of each seat. “Customers said the industry
standard drop-down armrests protrude,
which was not comfortable when sliding
over the seat, and they are only suitable
for one person,” says Aziz. “You only have
one armrest that moves with the seat.”
