SERVAIS REVEALS HER PLANS FOR NEW
AREAS AND PREDICTS SOME HIGHLIGHTS
Founded in 1885 by the German Agricultural Society (DLG) and with
a mission to share knowledge across borders, Agritechnica has grown
from humble beginnings into the world’s largest agricultural
equipment show. The 2019 event anticipates 2,750 exhibitors and 450,000 visitors,
and will be spread over the 23 halls and 400,000 square metres on offer at the
Hannover Exhibition Grounds.
“It’s all on my shoulders but I’m looking forward to it immensely,” says Marie
Servais, Agritechnica project manager for the second time following the success
of the 2017 edition. “Exhibitors started to register in November last year and we
began the allocation in February. You see the halls on a map but it’s only in 2D. In
the days leading up to the event the excitement builds as you walk the exhibition
grounds and see what the exhibitors have created, the machines they have
brought, everything has just grown from nothing. It’s very fulfi lling to witness the
result of two years work in front of you like that.”

Promoting sustainability
This year the overarching theme at Agritechnica is ‘Global farming – local
Responsibility’ which, despite a backdrop of continuing uncertainty on the world
stage, aims to point visitors towards a sustainable future in agriculture that will
require suffi cient food to be produced for a growing global population, while
simultaneously conserving natural resources.
“The current model of global farming means that specifi c regions of the world
specialize and produce particular crops to meet international demand,” says
Servais. “Technology companies have recognized and reacted to this trend, and
now offer tailor-made systems and services for the respective locations in order
to allow farmers to use resources effi ciently. These companies are helping
growers to act responsibly at a local level, where the individual farmer decides
daily on measures to manage his land and crops, from tillage, sowing, nutrients
and crop protection to harvesting and integrated logistics.”
In keeping with this year’s theme Agritechnica 2019 will be launching its
inaugural National Farmers’ Day on Thursday November 14 with the
