With the new generation of
business jets and corporate
airliners frequenting the airport, engineers
have designed a ramp expansion to
accommodate an additional 18 large
business jet aircraft.
Ramp space at the airport frequently
approaches capacity due to increased
aircraft traffic from turboprop to business
liners. This is due in part to the airport’s
close proximity to the Aspen, Eagle, Vail
and Beaver Creek communities.
Additionally, the range of these aircraft
are bringing many foreign registered
aircraft to the airport. Foreign registered
aircraft that currently use the airport
include Australia, Austria, Brazil, British
Virgin Island, Canada, China, England,
France, Ireland, Israel, Luxembourg,
Marshal Isle, Mexico, Panama, Turkey and
South Africa.
Condie reports, “The range of these
new aircraft is incredible. We now have
flights depart Rifle, Colorado and fly nonstop
to London.”
The FAA confirmed the high use
of the Rifle Airport by these larger
types of aircraft. It reported that in
2018 the airport was visited by over
750 D-III aircraft operations. The
airport capital improvement plan
now includes an airport reference
code upgrade from D-II to D-III.
“The airport currently meets all of the

Rifle Garfield County Airport director, Brian Condie, is pleased to
announce the approval of the 2021 ramp expansion project that will
bring an additional 208,800ft of needed ramp space to the airport
safety standards of a D-III airport with the
exception of paved runway shoulders,”
said Condie.
The increased demand has also
prompted private investors to consider
construction of large hangars at the
airport. In anticipation of this demand,
the airport has 10 large parcels ready to
occupy. Each parcel includes grading,
access to a group III taxiway, water/SS,
electric, natural gas and security camera
conduit access close by.
With a promising aviation forecast,
the Rifle Airport is leading the way by
increasing airport infrastructure and
capacity to accommodate this growing
aircraft fleet mix.
