THE 2020 TRACTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS WERE ANNOUNCED
AT AGRITECHNICA, HANOVER, IN NOVEMBER. iVT WAS THERE

Tractor of the Year (TOTY)
2020 has been awarded to
Fendt for the 942 Vario. A jury
of 25 agricultural machine journalists
selected the winner after a lengthy
process of analysis and test-drives. The
award was gratefully received at
November’s Agritechnica by Fendt’s
engineering team led by Peter-Josef
Paffen, brand head Fendt EME and
chairman of the AGCO/Fendt board.
“This is the best tractor we have ever
designed,” said Paffen. “The best tractor
in our lifetime.” The Fendt 942 Vario was
chosen from a shortlist of fi ve, the other
contenders being Case IH’s Magnum 380
CVX Drive, the Axion 960 Terra Trac by
Claas, McCormick’s X7.624 VT Drive and
Valtra’s N 154e Versu.
Category winners
In addition to the overall award, three
further categories winners were
recognised. Fendt, New Holland and
Rigitrac fought it out for Sustainable
Tractor of The Year, with New Holland
winning for its methane-powered
concept vehicle. New Holland’s
futuristic tractor has already grabbed
the headlines, winning the prestigious
Good Design prize awarded by the
Chicago Athenaeum Museum of
Architecture and Design.
Best Utility also went to Fendt for its
314 Vario Profi +, a vehicle that features
DynamicPerformance (DP), an
innovative power-boost concept
on-demand.
Last but not least, Best Specialised
Vehicle went to New Holland for the NH
T4.110 N. Designed for narrow work in
vineyards and fruit fi elds, the T4.110 N
features the suspended axle TerraGlide,
which itself is available either with
brakes or without, delivering a leap in
comfort and agility. Two wins each for
Fendt and New Holland.
