E-DRIVING CYCLES
speeds as well as limited accelerations
in their areas of application. In
addition, it is quite common to
surmount gradients in the low twodigit
range. The way to the site of
operation through the city demands
the highest speed of the vehicles, up
to 40 km/h otherwise the working
machines move on at a lower speed.
From then on, the torque is important
to be able to handle gradients and
different types of terrain. Also, during
the descent of a gradient with a high
vehicle mass, it must be remembered
that recuperation has a high potential.
Development of vehicles
Vehicles are traditionally developed
according to certain criteria.
Important attributes can be, for
example, the vehicle weight, the
maximum speed, the acceleration
or the fuel consumption. In general,
the requirements that the new
generation of vehicles should meet
are constantly improving compared
to the previous version. But how
do driving cycles benefit the
development of certain vehicles?

Multifunctional vehicles are
vehicles which enable a wide variety
of requirements to be met. This type
of vehicle can be used, for example,
for snow blowers, sweepers, mowers
or agricultural activities. This results
in load requirements that need
sufficient travel speed, as well as
high climbing ability and high
tractive effort on the wheel. Today’s
multifunctional vehicles are driven
by a combustion engine and by
hydraulic radial piston motors. Such
vehicles are driven by internal
combustion engines and are
operated in very different ways from
conventional driving cycles due to
the application.
An example is the e-drive cycle
for off-road vehicles. The task is to
transfer the previous powertrain
with combustion engine to an
electric powertrain. Here, the
reverse development path can be
taken. The vehicle requirements are
specified by the electric driving
cycles. On the basis of this
requirement profile, the electric
drivetrain can now be developed
