colour, touch, style and making of all
elements to create and embody a brand,
but the time and cost and energy of
holding all these things in a single vision
is the ultimate example of the guy on the
stage keeping a dozen plates spinning.
In manufacturing, there has been a
trend in recent years for a couple of large
and significant businesses to grow and
extend their portfolios to offer an eyewatering
range. The individual companies
absorbed are often excellent in their own
right and it would be counter-productive
to dismantle and restructure them. This
means there is an ‘owner’ of standards
throughout some cabins, not that the
ability to make everything guarantees you
being awarded a job like a ‘one-stop shop’.
However, the design input on virtually
all product items is still mostly considered
like this. Consider the cabin interior like a
pie – cut out a slice, perhaps add the cream
of innovation, but then pop it on a plate
