OEM INTERVIEW ZOOMLION
recently launched its WT260 at-top
tower-crane. “In China, there is
room for signi cant growth in
tower-cranes despite the Chinese
real-estate market not doing so well,
due to the need to replace or
upgrade existing products,” Dr Zhan
explains. “Internationally, we expect
improvement in terms of channel
and incomes and soon hope to be

within the top tier for tower-cranes.”
Zoomlion realised close to CN¥6
billion (US$0.9bn) revenue from
tower-cranes in 2018, is centrally
involved in evolving international
standards within ISOTC96
Secretariat, which is now
headquartered at Zoomlion, and has
recently constructed an intelligent
crane factory in China.
“ ere are two categories of
intelligence: product intelligence
and manufacturing. Our cranes can
leverage our data platform, allow us
to evaluate product health and
usage, and perform predictive
maintenance. rough intelligent
manufacturing, we can use
automation, carry out predictive
maintenance,” says Dr Zhan.
Branching out
Zoomlion continues to extend its
global reach. In 2013 it secured a
60% share in China’s Chery Heavy
Industry, marking its arrival in the
agricultural machine sector. In
addition to nine existing business
parks, it plans to build a 7km2
technology park in its Changsha
heartland, the 2022 opening of
which will coincide with Zoomlion’s
30th birthday. In 2012 it established
overseas production in India,
launched a Brazilian Concrete
Machinery branch in 2013 and, in
2015, set up shop on the China-
Belarus Industrial Park.
Dr Zhan is forever eying new
markets. “Many companies have
invested in infrastructure spending
for developing countries and need is
arising from Africa at an
extraordinary pace,” he says. “We
don’t have much presence in Africa
yet and their main demand seems to
be for excavators, whereas our
strengths lie in cement-mixing and
cranes.” Only around 12% of
Zoomlion’s total revenue is
generated beyond its shores, but
Europe o ers a vital springboard.
“Europe is an important market,
but not our most important,”
he concludes. “For scissor-li s,
China is moving from a ‘nobodyhas
it’ to an ‘everyone-has-it’
mentality, so we see China as a huge
market, rst and foremost.” iVT.

NEW MOBILE CRANES FOR EUROPE
Zoomlion recently launched its fi rst
ever all-terrain cranes for the
European market – the ATC1000 and
ATC960, with a lifting capacities of
100 and 60 metric tons respectively.
Both cranes are designed and
produced in Italy, and have a
single-engine concept, with an
engine management system that
reduces operational costs and
lowers emissions. Both are also
drivable from the upper cabin, with
all-axle steering.
Dana Incorporated supplies the
Brevini winch drives and slew
drives for the vehicles, which have
a compact, modular design that
enables vehicle manufacturers to
specify gear ratios and select the
optimal transmission size while
meeting application needs for line
speed, line pull, and braking
capability. Suitable for heavy-duty
use, Brevini slew drives use a
planetary design that withstands
high torque values in a compact,
high-effi ciency package.
“Our new line of ATC all-terrain
cranes has been designed with
best-in-class features to meet the
high expectations of European
equipment buyers,” says Davide
Cipolla, general manager for
Zoomlion CIFA Europe. “Dana has
been a supplier to CIFA for more
than 20 years, which is why we trust
their engineers to deliver
performance and reliability.”
“Dana has decades of experience
in helping the owners of
construction equipment work in the
harshest environments in the
world,” said Aziz Aghili, president of
Dana Off-Highway Drive and Motion
Technologies. “We look forward to
leveraging our expertise as
Zoomlion expands its mobile crane
offering across global markets.”
