planning and documentation can all
be managed swiftly and securely
using this web-based platform.
“One feature we are particularly
excited about is the revolutionary
AutoSetup (see Automatic for the
fields), which will make it possible to
download all field, machine and
implement data required for
individual jobs directly to the
tractor.” This free software upgrade
will become available late 2020.
The tractors can also be remotely
monitored by the JDLink telematics
system at the customer’s request, to
ensure maximum uptime. With
customer consent additionally
provided for Expert Alerts, potential
machine damage can be predicted,
and the likelihood of expensive
repairs reduced or avoided.
Soil protection
While the 8RT might be better
adapted to straight line pulls,
especially on flat terrain in dry loose
soil, the 8RX comes into its own
when the soil gets sticky and the
going hillier.
“From my perspective the biggest
advantage with the 8RX lies in its
capability to protect the soil,” says
Schowalter. “Also, despite the great
turning circle of just 10,7m the 8RX
will show no soil scrubbing which is
another major advantage in regard
to soil protection, especially on the
headland. When you add in its
maximum permissible weight of 24
tonnes, a width of less than three
metres, EU type approval, 40km/hr
unrestricted transport speed and
great comfort, the 8RX is a winner.”
The 8RX is available now. iVT

AUTOMATIC FOR THE FIELDS
John Deere’s new AutoSetup system
– which will be available on selected
John Deere tractors in the second
half of 2020 – will enable farmers to
manage and store all their tractor
and implement settings in the cloud.
Operators will then retrieve these at
the start of a job, meaning lengthy
setups for machine and field specific
settings need only be established
once. The universal storage of
cloud-based data in this manner is
unique to agriculture – and not yet
available in any other vehicle type,
even in the automotive industry.
Setups of complete tractor and
implement combinations are very
time-consuming and require well
trained operators. For complex
planting machinery, up to 60 display
clicks may be necessary, which
means a loss of working time. Once
the complete machine profiles are
stored, John Deere AutoSetup allows
the operator to activate all settings
with one click. The pre-planned job
appears automatically on the cab
display when the machine enters
a field, so the operator only has to
confirm the details. All data is also
available in the John Deere
Operations Centre web portal so can
be used for entire fleets. The data is
stored in a cloud-based system,
similar to the Apple iCloud, and also
new to the agricultural industry.
It will be possible to retrofit
AutoSetup to models equipped with
the latest Generation 4 display.
ABOVE: The cab of the 8RX
tractor is one of the most
luxurious John Deere has
ever created with such
refinements as an 11-litre
fridge, DAB+ touchscreen
radio with six speakers and
subwoofer and a two-mode
massage seat
a powerful subwoofer, while the
6.5in DAB+ touchscreen radio
provides cutting edge infotainment
functions and works with Apple
CarPlay. The integrated fridge has a
capacity of 11 litres to carry ample
refreshments, and he 360-degree
LED lighting system is 60% brighter.
Further cab improvements
prompted by customer requests
include a wider entry, lower-placed
door handle and self-cancelling
indicator. The air-conditioning
system has been relocated under
the cab to provide increased
headroom and to further reduce the
noise level in the cab. Last but not
least the new CommandPRO
joystick and its 11 reconfigurable
buttons helps make work more
comfortable and productive.
High-tech extras
The pioneering AutoTrac automatic
steering system, including optional
StarFire 6000 integrated satellite
receiver, has been further optimised,
with Wireless Data Transfer to the
John Deere Operations Centre
provided free of charge for five years
when choosing the connectivity
package. Field boundaries, guidance
lines and set-up data as well as crop

would want to return to. The result
is the biggest, quietest and most
luxurious cab we’ve ever developed.”
The award-winning Active Seat II
offers perforated leather trim,
heating, active air circulation, a twomode
massage function and various
electric and pneumatic adjustable
seat components. Suspension on the
seat been improved to provide even
better response and increased
reduction of vertical shocks, using
quick-reaction electric suspension
technology to isolate the operator
from up to 90% of vertical
movements. There is even what
Schowalter calls a, “Harley Davidson
feel” with the three footrests,
enabling the operator to lift their
legs up and get truly comfortable
while operating.
