JUNGHEINRICH STUNS THE MATERIAL HANDLING
INDUSTRY WITH THE UNVEILING OF ITS P30i THE
WORLD’S FIRST PUREELECTRIC REPLACEMENT FOR
HYDROSTATIC COUNTERBALANCE LIFTTRUCKS

High-voltage technology delivers unprecedented power
Designers and engineers at Jungheinrich are pushing battery
technology forward and introducing new levels of power and
durability with their latest machine. The fi rst P30i was unveiled to
the world’s press at a special event in the OEM’s home
city of Hamburg, at the end of January 2020,
although it won’t will be available to market
until the second half of 2021
The P30i is described as a “game
changer in the world of counterbalance
trucks”, being the fi rst to deliver the
performance of an IC engine on
all-electric power. New 96V lithium-ion
battery technology, developed
in-house by Jungheinrich, is capable
of delivering such impressive levels of
power that the OEM has stated that its
new generation of LPG and diesel trucks
– the 3s and 4s series, also launched at the
January 2020 event – will be the last IC engine
hydrostatic counterbalance trucks it builds in the
1.6t-3.5t range.
As well as matching IC power, the P30i also maintains the
cabin comfort and space that drivers of IC equivalents have
come to enjoy. This is achieved by splitting the lithium-ion
power source into two modules that can be fi tted into the
shell of a diesel truck – instead of installing one large battery
as is necessary with lead-acid technology – thereby not
compromising leg room.
Each lithium-ion battery module delivers 25kWh, providing
suffi cient power for intensive use over three shifts. “This is the
fi rst truck worldwide where we use the shell of an IC truck and
put the high-voltage lithium-ion technology inside,” Marvin
Jentzsch, product manager for Jungheinrich told iVT.
“Previously our lithium-ion technology
was 80V. Now with 96V for the fi rst time we can replace
high-performance IC trucks – in the beverage industry and in
recycling industry for example – with a lithium-ion
electric truck.”
“The P30i combines the power, robustness
and driving comfort of a combustion engine
with the economy and emission-free
operation of an electric truck,” added
Christain Erlach, board member for
sales and marketing at Jungheinrich.
“In terms of energy effi ciency,
ergonomics and sustainability, the P30i
sets new standards and is the beginning
of the end for the diesel forklift truck.”
At the same event Jungheinrich
proved that it has its sights set fi rmly on
the future by also announcing new energy
storage solutions, for indoor and outdoor use,

One solution in particular has been designed with the
P30i in mind. An outdoor-capable quick charger, which can be
easily transported to its place of use with a crane hook and
forklift bracket. The system consists of a battery, converter,
air conditioning, control and energy management system.
The battery can be charged with a traditional domestic supply
but, once charged, can deliver up to 34kW of power via the
SLH 400i charger.
