PREVIEW: IFOY AWARDS
DOOSAN DELIVERS DRONE BREAKTHROUGH
New drone systems from Doosan won honours in two categories at the Innovation Awards
during January’s CES, the world’s largest electronics trade show. Doosan’s Long Endurance
Fuel Cell Drone won a Best of Innovation Award in the Drones & Unmanned Systems Category,
while its Mobile Fuel Cell Powerpack landed an Honoree Award in Sustainability, Eco-Design &
Smart Energy. The company’s hydrogen fuel cell drone extends flight time beyond that of
battery-type drones – which can fly for only 20 to 30 minutes – to more than two hours.
Doosan’s hydrogen fuel cell drones are composed of a powerpack, a miniaturised lightweight
fuel cell system that maximises mobility by utilising proton-exchange membrane fuel cell
technology, and a drone frame that use the powerpack as its main power source.

CASE DESIGN ACCOLADE
Case Construction Equipment has received the prestigious
Good Design Award for ProjectTETRA – iVT’s June 2019 cover
star. The methane-powered wheel loader concept offers an
insight into a sustainable, connected and technologically
advanced future for construction.
The concept is powered by a proven methane engine that
delivers the same performance as its diesel equivalent. The
design includes cutting-edge styling and an advanced
operator environment that makes extensive use of
touchscreen and voice control technologies. It also offers
innovative safety features that use biometric technologies and
an obstacle detection system derived from CNH Industrial’s
autonomous vehicle research and development programme.

READY FOR MESSE
The finalists for this year’s IFOY (International
Intralogistics and Forklift Truck of the Year) Awards
have been announced – with the winners to be
revealed on 20th April at the Hannover Messe
technology trade fare, which now incorporates
the material handling expo CeMAT.
Companies shortlisted include Jungheinrich (for
its ERC 216zi, pictured left ), Combilift, Crown, Geek+,
Hyster, Still and Toyota Material Handling. Forklifts,
warehouse equipment, robots, AGVs, software and
apps were all eligible for the awards – as, for the first
time, were drones.
In total 17 products and solutions have been
shortlisted to compete within the seven categories.
All nominated finalists will go through an IFOY audit
where analysts measure them against key
benchmarks, followed by an assessment of their
innovative value. Once this process is complete jurors
from Europe, Australia, China, Brazil and Russia will
congregate in Hannover to inspect the nominated
products, test them and chose the winners.
NH INNOVATION
New Holland placed three innovations in the top 50
of The American Society of Agricultural and
Biological Engineers (ASABE) annual AE50 Awards.
The first, the SideWinder Ultra armrest, places all
key tractor controls in a single location and features
a fully customisable interface. The second, Ground
Speed Management II, available on New Holland’s
T5 and T6 ranges, automatically maintains the
requested forward speed at the optimal operating
point. Finally, the P-Series air cart’s automatic
levelling and agitation system ensures fine seed,
innoculant or other small-particle sized products
adequately cover all metre rollers in near-empty
tank conditions for maximum productivity.
