Even in the aviation sector, a reduction
in product life cycles can be observed
with electronic products. This situation
requires a shorter time to market and less
time for each product development. At the
same time, the complexity of the systems
increases, which leads to higher demands
on testing. The existing quality
requirements can only be fulfilled if
flexible and efficient test services are
available. Particularly in the area of EMC
testing, in addition to high investment
costs, special knowledge and skills of
experienced test engineers are necessary.
These capacities must be used efficiently.
Treo-Labor für Umweltsimulation is an
independent, accredited service provider of
testing to the aerospace sector and provides
tests including environmental simulation,
EMC, material testing and electrical safety.
The company, which has two lab sites,
one of which was built just five years ago, is
building a new larger laboratory for EMC
testing to accommodate the growth in this
area of testing.
PLANNING OF NEW FACILITIES
The new, dedicated EMC testing laboratory
is being built in the heart of Schleswig-
Holstein, less than 45 min away from
Hamburg airport by the company Comtest
from the Netherlands. Construction is
expected to be complete by the end of 2019.
Working together Comtest and Treo
engineers have created a flexible and
efficient layout which combines two EMC
chambers and open area test site (OATS). As
the existing EMC chamber is about 30
years old, it had to be assumed that it would
not survive a move to the new building.
Two brand new semi-anechoic chambers
were therefore planned, one with 1m
measuring distance to fulfil all
requirements of military and aviation tests
