 EMPIRE CEILING FIXTURE
A central feature of the Ante Meridiem
(before midday) BBJ concept from Aeria
Luxury Interiors is the use of automated
 lighting adjustments to alter passengers’
circadian rhythms, with the intention of
ameliorating the effects of jet lag.
 Colour-changeable LED lighting,
 capable of displaying 16.7 million
 individual colours, is programmed to
transition passengers to the new time
zone over the course of long flights.
 The optimal transitional sequence
depends on the flight’s departure and
arrival times, the number of time zones
 traversed and the global direction
 travelled. These parameters, derived
from the flight plan, are analysed by
 the system processor’s algorithms to
 produce the desired lighting sequence.
LED RGB indirect lighting sources are
 installed in non-traditional locations
 – behind or within floating mirrors,
 horizontal wall troughs and detached
 buttresses framing the upper sidewalls.
 A warm, monochromatic colour palette
was chosen to provide a canvas for the
wash lighting, offering a subtly changing
 visual environment.
Collins Aerospace has designed its μLED
Reading Light to last in excess of 75,000 hours,
40,000 more than the 35,000 hours the
company believes to be the current average.
The technology can be used as a large spot,
small target, and in non-standard shapes.
It can also serve as a dome light with
full-colour options. The company says one
unit is equivalent to three or more
 standard reading lights, yielding
 a 66% weight saving.
 The multilevel ceiling fixture that
is centred over the dining table
 in Aeria Luxury Interiors’ Empire
 BBJ 777 concept combines direct
 table illumination with indirect
 upwash lights on successively higher
 tiers, culminating in an outermost
cove that is highlighted by changeable,
 projected artwork.
The circular table is equipped with a
rotary serving turntable that rises via a
powered mechanism to reveal a beverage
chiller that has recesses for bottles and
glasses. When lifted, LED light shines
upwards from below the chiller, illuminating
the bottles and glasses, and then reflects
off of the turntable’s underside onto the
 surrounding tabletop.
An illuminated tapered strip creates a
glowing accent on the curved backs of the
dining chairs. Custom tablet sconces flank
the entry door, continuing the rectilinear
lines of the bulkheads and flooring,
contrasting with the circular ceiling theme.
