FLEX JET
A round six years ago, fractional aircraft provider
Flexjet decided to take a different route with its
interiors. “The fractional, airline and charter
industries have all been guilty of producing the same
boring interiors,” says Ric Michaels, director of product
development at Flexjet. “It was always very predictable
that you would board and see a repeat of the theme you
saw last week. Throughout the industry, all the aircraft
 are pretty much the same.”
The company decided to create more characterful
themes, to be applied to a maximum of four aircraft each.
The exteriors are identical, and the cabin layouts and
amenities are comparable, but the look and feel varies.
“The experience is much like checking into a Ritz-
Carlton – you know your room is going to be lovely but
you don’t know what the décor will be like until you put
the key in the door,” says Michaels. “Our customers know
they’re going to have a high-quality aircraft, with a clean,
fresh interior, but the actual design will be a surprise.”
