THE RENOVATION OF KIMPTON SAINT GEORGE HOTEL IN
TORONTO FOCUSED ON MAKING GUESTS FEEL AT EASE
The rooms in this Toronto hotel
were renovated to feel more like
residential apartments. Design
firm Mason Studio was inspired
by the city’s neighbourhoods.
This heritage has been translated
into a modern design throughout
the hotel, which has 188 guest
rooms including 20 suites and
a presidential suite.
Highlights include a handpainted
mural of a Torontoinspired
scene, and vintage
black-and-white photographs
that tell the story of a family’s
post-war vacation to the city.

Care has been taken to imbue
each space with its own character,
so it feels like moving between
neighbourhoods. For example, the
meeting space has a light feel,
while blue hues in the adjacent
lounge create an intimate feel.
In the guest lounge, a living
room ambience is achieved
through the use of bespoke pieces
from local artisans. The fireplace
features cold blue marble and
textured surfaces, balanced with
a warm-toned wooden arch. This
marriage of cold and warm tones
is replicated throughout.

The power of lighting is evident in Bala
Perdida Club in Madrid, Spain, designed by
El Equipo Creativo. The warmth of brick lends
a cosy feel for cocktails, then LED lighting
ensures a colourful space for dancing. Mirrors
create the never-ending tunnel effect.
Virgin Atlantic is debuting this social space,
The Loft, in the new Upper Class cabin on its
A350-1000 fleet. Passengers can enjoy food
and drinks while socialising in the area, or don
Bluetooth headphones to enjoy IFE or views
from the live tailcam on the 32in screen.
