 Blissful slumber
 It was important to make
both the G450s and the G650s
 suitable for long overseas
 missions. “Gulfstream has done
a wonderful job of making these
 aircraft comfortable for long
 flights,” says Ric Michaels of
 Flexjet. “The seats can rotate,
 the backs drop and they
 become sleeping areas.”
 Flexjet also incorporates a
custom jet bed on long flights.
 “This is an inflatable mattress
that goes on top of the seats,
 turning the forward clubfour
 into two beds,” explains
 Michaels. “Meanwhile, the divan
in the centre of the aircraft
 extends to become a nice
 sleeping area. There’s another
jet bed that goes in the aft
 dining room, where the central
table drops down. On the G450,
this means six people can be
 very comfortable, even on a
 very long flight.”

Flexjet started this approach with its Gulfstream types,
which account for seven of the themes, and has done the
same with aircraft from other manufacturers. There are
currently 30 themes across the fleet.
The Gulfstream types include G450s and G650s,
which have particularly unique, ‘Red Label’ branded
interiors. “Red Label aircraft have bespoke interiors and
other amenities that we believe our competition doesn’t
have,” says Michaels. “We kicked off our Red Label
 programme with the Gulfstream products.”
Michaels works with the Gulfstream team – including
director of interior design, Tray Crow – on the bespoke
interiors. Flexjet always specifies club seating, a divan
arrangement, a dining/conference area and a large galley,
plus forward and aft lavatories for crew and passengers.
 S-SHAPED GALLEY
The galley on the G450 is a customised version of the aft
option for the aircraft, which is more commonly chosen
than the forward version. “We enlarged a portion of the
galley on the port side of the aircraft,” says Michaels.
“This creates a modern S-shape that is very conducive
to being used by the flight attendant, and it’s also quite
appealing aesthetically. It also gave us a larger aft
bulkhead facing the passengers. We took the opportunity
to put a larger TV screen there.”
The company also wanted to increase the G450’s
seating capacity slightly, so two companion seats were
installed across the aisle from the four-place dining group.
As well as enabling six people to eat together, Michaels
says this is useful for collaborative working. “Six people
