GO WITH THE GRAIN
Just because it’s wood, that doesn’t make it a perfect fit. Lonseal goes beyond
traditional wood elements and studies human needs to achieve perfect wood designs

hether it’s a private jet or a
large passenger aircraft, there
is an alchemy of science and art
W
that must balance aesthetics, comfort
and function when it comes to interior
design. In the earlier days of passenger
aircraft, it was common design practice
to have all interiors look alike to create
consistency and trust.
A lot has changed since the world’s
first commercial airline took off in 1914.
Today aircraft interiors are being
designed more like modern luxury
hotels or homes. Wood design is
gaining the attention of many
aircraft owners because of its
dual purpose: it can make an
interior cabin space feel more
luxurious and it can also provide
a calming effect; however, weight
is a major factor when designing
aircraft interiors, so real wood is not an
option. Lonseal sheet vinyl flooring is
considered by some to be the best option
for wood-look flooring in aircraft cabins.
Lonseal designs its flooring range
based on studies of human psychological
needs. Travel can raise anxiety for many
passengers, so Lonseal has specific
designs that provide a calming effect in
large commercial aircraft. At the other
end of the spectrum, private jet owners
may want a cabin space that reflects the
purpose of their aircraft, whether as an
extension of their home/office or to
provide trendy transportation for clients.
Lonseal aircraft flooring has wood-looks
that cater to both the excitement and the
well-being of passengers.
Lonseal designs and manufactures
sheet vinyl flooring for a wide range of
aircraft. The Cirrus Collection offers a
variety of realistic wood-looks, from
intricate grain details to the unique
characteristics of real wood, to replicate
its timeless beauty.
formulation that improves infection
control, while GreenAir provides low VOC
for improved cabin air quality.
Lonseal has supplied the aviation
industry for over 30 years. The company
has a wide range of commercial flooring
products, many of which it has modified
to meet all applicable aviation safety and
performance requirements. Lonseal
became an aviation industry leader
because of the Featherweight feature
in its aircraft flooring products, which
makes them up to 30% lighter than
standard NTF (non-textile flooring)
products. In addition to the lightweight
material, the high strength-to-weight
ratio of the products is often specified
by many aircraft designers and airplane
manufacturers.
The Cirrus Collection
consists of three
options. Lonvirga is a
classic, rich, wood-grain look that adds an
intriguing design touch to aircraft interior
spaces, particularly lavatories and private
cabins. Lonmistral is a linear pattern that
is visually lively, yet still brings a touch of
class and warmth to an otherwise sterile
interior. Finally, Loncontrail resembles a
natural striated wood-look, with a
continuous brushstroke that soothes an
environment that may otherwise be filled
with anxiety and stress.
Lonseal products also meet REACH
(Registration, Evaluation, Authorization,
and Restriction of Chemicals) criteria, the
European Union regulation that
addresses the production and use of
chemical substances. The aircraft flooring
range also meets FAA requirements FAR
25.853a (12-second vertical flammability
test) and FAR 25.793 (factor of sliding
friction). All product lines in the aircraft
collections come with GreenMedic and
GreenAir, which are both exclusive to
Lonseal. GreenMedic is an antimicrobial
