High performing,
compact contactor
A contactor is a small, yet
important component in an electric
vehicle to switch power to loads
supplied by the battery.
TE Connectivity’s new Kilovac
EV600 contactors carry 20% more
current than legacy alternatives.
Kilovac electric vehicle
contactors are designed to offer the
highest performance, the smallest
and lightest weight sealed high
voltage contactors in the industry.
With current carrying capability of
up to 600A and power switching
up to 200kW, they are used in
a variety of industrial, marine,
automotive, and commercial
applications. Primarily designed
to switch resistive loads, they
can be used in a variety of circuit
applications bearing in mind a
few important considerations.
This application focuses on a
few of the more common circuit
confi gurations, and what to
consider when selecting, installing
and using the contactors.
Lightweight 3-way valve for fl uid control
Engineers in the electric and hybrid vehicle
space are under pressure to develop systems that
help meet the goal of greater distance per charge
without sacrifi cing performance or style in the
vehicle design. Advanced thermal management
and component effi ciency are great starting points
for meeting these goals.
TLX Technologies recently introduced its
newest innovation in fl uid control for vehicle
applications. This valve has been designed to
electronically control coolant from one pump to
two cooling loops in a vehicle’s system. Utilizing
a solenoid operated pilot valve to control a
pressure-operated main control valve allows
3-position operation with minimal pressure
drop. Peak and hold or latching technology can
be integrated for optimization and reduction
of power consumption. Designed for high fl ow
applications with 1 inch hose fi ttings for both the
inlet and outlet ports, this patent pending valve’s
fl ow characteristics can be customized. The
lightweight and durable 3-way fl uid control valve
provides the performance and fl exibility needed
to make it a great option for many electric and
hybrid vehicle applications.
TLX Technologies uses proportional, highspeed,
high temperature, and latching solenoid
and valve technologies to custom design
electromagnetic products. Our engineering team
supports OEM innovation with solutions that meet
challenging requirements in a wide range
of applications.
High-voltage contactors series
TDK high-voltage contactors series
HVC is made to meet the requirements for
high-voltage DC emergency disconnection
applications in electric cars, trucks, busses,
energy storage and DC fast chargers. The
newly updated HVC series is now available
with an increased voltage of 1,000V and with
200A, 300A or 500A operating current. It
comes with decreased contact resistance and
integrated coil termination.
The gas-fi lled ceramic arc-chamber safely
and quickly extinguishes the current during
breaking ensuring excellent extinguishing
characteristics, while the make and break
performance under load is increased.
For bi-polar design allowing charging and
dis-charging at the same time the single-coil
remains the best choice.
For even higher load-cycle performance,
a dual-coil option has been added, serving as
economizer technology. Instead of a single
coil, this version of HVC features a pick-up and
a holding coil. During the fi rst 120ms current
consumption is high (2A at 24V) to increase
the make ability and, correspondingly, the
break ability.
After 120ms, the current consumption
decreases to 0.1A at 24V. Only the holding coil
is used during HVC remains closed. With 4W
power consumption from the holding coil, the
coil-power was decreased by more than 30%
compared to the single coil version.
