Thermo Melter
Skid reinvents
the Thermo Hog
(below) as a mobile
device that can
melt 2,000lbs
of thermoplastic
at a time
and keep any job within OSHA
standards, promoting safer and
healthier work environments by
drastically reducing the amount
of respirable crystalline silica. This
dust, if not controlled, can be inhaled
by workers on the job site and over
time may lead to very serious health
issues such as silicosis, lung cancer,
COPD and kidney disease.
The company developed
the Surface Hog for cleaning and
preparation on almost any surface,
including porous asphalt. This was
created with safety in mind because
dirt and sediments can get into the
micro and macro texture of a surface,
acting as a clog. When rainwater
falls upon a clogged surface it
cannot seep down into the
ground, and so begins to pool.
In addition, traction is lost
on these surfaces which
poses a potential
hazard to drivers.
Using highpressure
40,000 The new Stripe Hog 5.2
water blasting system
can mount to skid or trailer,
boasts 40,000psi operating
pressure and has a flow
rate of 5.2GPM
water,
these surfaces
can be kept
intact, and
clean and safe
for motorists.
Another
one of Hog’s
innovations is
the Thermo Hog.
This thermoplastic
longline truck can lay
stripes down rapidly and
efficiently due to the company’s
revolutionary Hog Melter, which
uses heated oil to evenly distribute
heat throughout the entire surface
area of the melter. That means the
melter can be shut down instantly
without having to wait for the
thermoplastic and glass beads
to settle to the bottom.
When started again, the melter
will evenly heat and re-melt the
cooled thermoplastic no matter
where it is, in less than an hour.
Using this method, 8,000lbs of
thermoplastic per hour can be
continuously liquefied per melter
using only two kettles and one
burner. Most thermoplastic trucks
use as many as four kettles and
nine burners to achieve the
same results. In addition, their
conveyor belt loading system
allows one worker to load the
dry material into the melter
with ease, thus reducing worker
fatigue and back strain.
The Thermo Hog also
uses the company’s
revolutionary Hog
Pump, which
is designed
to pump
thermoplastic,
is 33% smaller
than the leading
competitive
pump and
weighs 371lbs
less. The Hog
Pump is also able to
be repaired without
removing it from the
chassis, drastically reducing
maintenance time.
The Hog Pump isn’t just for the
Thermo Hog as it can replace any
existing pump on virtually any
thermoplastic truck without any
modification to hydraulics.
Making the Thermo Hog mobile
Hog Technologies has taken the
technology from the Thermo Hog
and fitted it into a mobile format: and
so the Thermo Melter Skid was born.
Using a single Hog Melter, this skidmounted
machine can melt 2,000lbs
of thermoplastic at a time with a 20-
minute recovery time. It uses the
same conveyor belt loading
system to help reduce worker
fatigue. The skid can attach
to any vehicle or apparatus
to apply thermoplastic
markings to surfaces.
This unit is ideal for
filling a smaller capacity
thermoplastic applicator
when the cycle time is about
20 minutes between refill
operations. The Thermo Melter
Skid aims to take the place of
multiple conventional melters
with no waiting to heat material.
These solutions are just a few
examples of the forward thinking
employed by Hog Technologies.
Technology does not advance by
itself – and Hog Technologies
commits itself to making those
advancements and innovations. ■
