| POWER OVER ETHERNET
The application space for Power
over Ethernet (PoE) is rapidly
expanding. Increasingly, Intelligent
Transportation Systems (ITS) are
adopting in greater scale the technique
for passing electrical power along with data
over Ethernet cabling.
Ethernet deployments in ITS have
been growing because the technology
enables data to be collected, converted
and conveyed as quickly as possible and
without interruption, and these benefits are
crucial underpinnings for more efficiently
managing the transportation system and
communicating real-time data to travelers.
Three major components of the ITS
already utilize Ethernet lines for data
transmission: cameras, radios and messaging
systems. Higher-powered cameras and
radios, especially, are being deployed by
the dozen, every day, in regions around
the world, in order to support more
innovative traffic monitoring and
communications capabilities.
