Above: The MiM
interface, which
can be tailored
to a customer’s
requirements
it is related to the intensive
business activities of
the company in the
Eastern market,
but also to the
modified
legislation
that promotes
dynamic
weighing.
In addition,
Betamont has 72
monitored traffic
lanes in Slovakia
within the toll
system, 80 MiM
systems for statistical
purposes and pre-selection, and
12 fully equipped MiM stations with
enforcement using certificated lowspeed
1m+ Since 2017 there have been
more than a million breaches
of weight restriction on
Russia’s roads
weighing.
Beyond weighing
The MiM system has a wide range of
functions, with WIM just a part. The
ALPR subsystem, which currently
works with 98% accuracy, is an
indispensable part of the traffic
parameter measurement process.
As well as reading plates to identify
vehicles, MiM can work with images
in a more advanced manner and use
this data to identify all kinds of
vehicle attributes, including
emissions, technical
specifications and
dangerous cargo. It
can also detect if
belts are buckled
and passengers
are present,
as well as
identifying the
vehicle model
and color.
The basic
configuration can
be supplemented
with additional noncontact
measurement
systems such as highspeed
lasers to capture vehicle
contours. For example, a combination
of radar, ultrasonic and infrared
systems was used in the national
highway toll project in Slovakia.
More progress for MiM
Betamont works constantly to
improve and expand its system.
Because every system is working
with currently available sensors,
the company does encounter some
limits. These can be solved partly
with software, but with a small
number of customer requirements
they must resort to developing
their own weighing sensors,
according to the requirements
of the system as a whole.
The company approaches the
product innovation process in terms
of how to offer quality and affordable
solutions as simply as possible.
Meanwhile, it continues to consider
new possibilities to deploy MiM
applications in other industries.
Data
Advanced data processing is a
fundamental part of the MiM system.
The in-depth data analysis, with use
of advanced artificial intelligence
methods, is carried out to identify,
calculate and interpret traffic
parameters, patterns and
correlations. At the same time,
historical data is utilized because
it contains a certain regularity that
can be followed and modelled.
An upgrade of the data processing
system is a specific application with
a defined user environment and a
degree of visualization depending
on the purpose for which it is to be
used, for example application for
a police officer, monitoring center
operator, traffic stream management,
advanced reporting and general
public information. What Betamont
and MiM is able to offer today is
only the beginning. ■
