BE IT A HOT OR COLD DAY, GETTING THE TEMPERATURE RIGHT IN A VEHICLE
IS CRUCIAL FOR PASSENGER COMFORT AND CONSEQUENTIAL PRODUCTIVITY
 iVTInternational.com September 2019
The Eberspächer Group is a leading system
developer and supplier for the off-highway
industry. With its climate control systems, the company
offers competence across the board and ensures a
pleasant climate in a broad range of vehicle types,
such as construction, agricultural, and forestry machines.
Eberspächer is further developing its competence as
a thermal management system provider after acquiring
the French climate control specialist, Kalori SAS. This
company with its head office in Lyon, France, has been
 successfully developing and producing air-conditioning
and ventilation systems for commercial and special
vehicles for more than 25 years. Products by the new
Eberspächer Kalori brand are now available via the
 global Eberspächer distribution network.
 New offerings
With the KAB, Eberspächer Kalori offers a new
air-conditioning system which is also available as a
heating version. As it integrates all functions – such
as air distribution and control panel – it is the perfect
solution for cabins without a dashboard. It is available
in more than 10 variants and is the perfect solution
 for many off-highway vehicle applications.
Its range of versions and power ensures thermal
comfort whatever the size of the cab. For example,
the KAB HVAC 10/7.7 kW variant ensures a comfortable
climate in the largest cabins with a cooling power of
7.7 kW and a heat output of 10 kW. For use with lower
power requirements, the KAB HV 7.6 kW variant with
a heat output of 7.6 kW and a slightly smaller size with a
height of 129mm allows for an excellent level of comfort
 to be achieved.
The KAB has also been adapted to the needs
of battery electric vehicles. In this case, the cabin is
heated by a PTC element. Eberspächer Kalori also offers
combined heaters, air-conditioning systems and HVAC
systems that equip both forklifts and the most
 demanding hybrid machines.
 Regulation compliant
The new heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning
system mounted in the cabin roof complies with the
new obligations of the European Regulation 167/2013
that came into force in January 2018 and prohibits sharp
edges, for example. To meet these obligations, the air
vents have a new design; the shutters do not protrude

 BELOW: KAB is also adaptable
 for battery electric vehicles
into the passenger compartment and do not risk
injuring the operator. These air vents provide a good
airflow thanks to their diameter of 83.5mm. The entire
visible part of the KAB also satisfies the new regulations,
so the buttons are properly integrated and nothing goes
 beyond the contours.
The KAB has been specially developed for the
equipment of tractor cabs and is offered as a retrofit
solution too. It is also suitable for cabins without
dashboards and integrates the air distribution and
the control panel. It also reserves space for four contact
switches measuring 46 × 24mm, which can control the
wipers, a rotating beacon or any other electrical
accessory. Apart from the KAB HV 7.6kW and KAB HVAC
4.3/3.5kW variants, the air distribution plenum allows
two additional duct connectors to be connected to
supply air inlets at the rear of the cab and thus provide
 optimal air distribution.
 Industry excellence
This new HVAC further strengthens the Eberspächer
Kalori standard solutions, whose broad range makes it
possible to define the heating or air conditioning needs
of a special vehicle extremely quickly without a long or
specific analysis. In these types of new vehicle projects,
the equipment manufacturer and the manufacturer save
valuable time without excluding the simulation and test
phases at the end of the project to definitively approve
 the results obtained.
Eberspächer Kalori has also worked on the evolution
of its TrimLine range. As of November 2019, the KD
louver will be replaced by the KD version 3. It performs
the same function in terms of airflow passage and
orientation, but with a consistently automotive design.
A more luxurious version will feature a chrome ring,
which visually fits in perfectly with the range of other
TrimLine products. A thinner version with a diameter
of 32mm can be used on smaller dashboards or in
 side trim. iVT
