LIGHTWEIGHT, ROBUST & VERSATILE BRAKING
Knott is once again living up to its reputation for
producing advanced braking technology, not just with
a new brake, but with an innovative actuation system
for traditional expansion wedge brakes. Designed for
agricultural trailers, and the military, the system can
be easily adjusted to nearly every axle type.
“The goal was to develop an actuation system for
expansion wedge brakes that meets three criteria:
actuation power generated as closely as possible to
the brake, a reduction in weight, and protection
against dirt to deliver low maintenance,” says Knott
development engineer Andreas Klumpner.
These goals have been achieved – and more. The
new system is not only lighter and more robust, it is
also compatible with every standard braking cylinder
and suitable for installation on rigid, torsion spring
and even steering axles.
“This is thanks to the high fl exibility in the set-up of
the various components,” says Klumpner. “It allows
the system to, for
instance, serve as
a replacement for
the S-cam brake and
save space here, too.
After all, the cylinder is
now directly on the
brake itself.”
This is not just a trial set-up. The system has
already passed in-house tests with honors, so that the
fi rst series production can start.
“We are delighted to have optimized a known,
reliable system for rugged use,” concludes Klumpner.
“And for such a broad range of uses. From 330 x 80 to
500 x 220, everything is possible.”

JOHN DEERE 6090M TRACTOR
As part of its all-new 6M range, which will be on
display at Agritechnica, John Deere is introducing its
most compact ever 6M tractor, the new 6090M. It’s
one of four new four-cylinder models from 90 to
120hp on a 2.4m wheelbase, the entire range o ers
higher standards of comfort, performance and
manoeuvrability and visibility, the new low bonnet
presenting a clear view to the front of the machine. In
addition a slimmer steering wheel cowl and newly
designed panoramic window in the cab roof provide
full visibility for loader work or operation in con ned
spaces. e improved manoeuvrability is a result of
the short wheelbase, which allows a tight turning
circle of only 4.35m on the new four-cylinder models.
“ e new 6M range delivers all-new tractors
for livestock, medium-sized and mixed farms,”
says Stephan Franke, marketing manager for John
Deere Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “It
provides our customers signi cant gains in
performance, up-time and cost of operation,
meaning this is an important launch for us.”
Despite its slim design, this full-frame concept
tractors feature a maximum permissible gross
weight of 10.45 metric tons, meaning an unrivalled
payload capacity in this class of up to 4.7 metric
tons. e newly designed cab is signi cantly
brighter and more modern in appearance, as well as
extremely quiet, with a rating of 70dB(A).
