VALENCIA ARENA, VALENCIA, SPAIN
Plans for a new multi-purpose arena in the
downtown area of Valencia have been revealed
by HOK and local Valencian architecture practice,
 ERRE Arquitectura.
Set to be the future home of the men and
women’s Valencia Basket Club, as well as aiming
to be a premier destination for music, arts, culture,
and other sporting events, the US$220m facility
will feature a seating capacity of 15,600, or 18,600
 with standing room.
LICAMPA 1617, an enterprise founded by
Spanish businessman Juan Roig, is leading the
development of the venue, which will feature a
 12,900ft² (1,200m²) multi-purpose space where
visitors will be offered a diverse range of premium
hospitality products and a steeply-pitched seating
bowl designed to create an intimate experience.
There will also be a 1,300-space underground,
multi-story car park, as well as the construction of
complementary buildings around the arena such
as a 215,000ft² (20,000m²) pubic park and new
facilities for local school Les Arts – all designed
to invigorate and enhance the neighborhood.
HOK and ERRE’s collaboration on the design
of the highly-flexible facility is said to blend
 multifunctionality, comfort, security, atmosphere
and sustainability in a bid to make it a world-class
sports and entertainment venue, and asset to the
 local community.
Renderings of the arena show an eye-catching,
modern, louvre-style building exterior with a
large video display housed within an opening,
that can be viewed by those enjoying pre-or-postevent
activities and dining at outside plaza areas.
Valencia Arena is expected to create more than
300 jobs and generate nearly US$13m per year for
the local economy. Construction is scheduled to
begin in summer 2020 and be complete in 2023. n
