 TECHNOLOGY
 TAKEOVER
The introduction of more advanced wireless technology
is creating opportunities for sports stadia to offer visitors
an intelligent and connected environment and experience
as digital ticketing, seat upgrades, food and beverage
ordering, access to social media, and even view event
video. The apps can also scale in complexity to provide
location base services (blue dot) to navigate to the
venue, entrance, and find seats or amenities.
 Smart thinking
The next generation of venues will introduce smart
sensors to offer features such as digital queuing to
determine wait times at parking lots, concessions or
restrooms and recommend to visitors locations with
shorter lines. This service could be further enhanced
through augmented reality where the field-of-view
from a smartphone’s camera (and eventually glasses or
other headset) will project services, way-finding, and
information in real-time based on location. Fans could
he lights are still bright. The sight lines
are still clear. But the modern stadium
is host to more than games and special
events. In the new age of stadia design,
venues are creating an experience that
is as much digital as tangible thanks to advancements
in new technology that further enhance the spectator
experience and venue operation. Intelligent stadium
design integrates infrastructure that can allow for a
 completely immersive and connected environment
before the spectator even leaves for the event.
The ubiquitous use of smartphones provides venue
operators direct access to spectators through sharing
and updating event and venue information in realtime.
Custom venue apps and social media can
interface a variety of venue systems and services, such
