and greater reliability, all while being four times
more power efficient for mobile devices.
 Bridge to new possibilities
The connected experience can also stretch to
sports that don’t operate in a typical stadium, such
as golf. Golf tournaments are notoriously difficult
environments for connectivity with a temporary setup,
dense crowds of people and a wide footprint. But at this
year’s US Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links, Cisco and
the United States Golf Association (USGA) partnered
to debut the first-ever connected course.
The Connected Course delivered an unprecedented
on-site experience that enabled fans, players, staff and
media to access the network with ease. By
championship’s end, users made more than 100,000
Wi-Fi connections and consumed more than 25TB of
data – a four-fold increase in data consumption and
nearly three-fold increase in connections from 2018.
As new sports and entertainment properties
come to life in the coming years and decades, the
boundaries of what is possible will continue to grow,
however it will require the right strategic partners to
maximize its potential. With Cisco’s mix of experience,
expertise and innovation – as well as insight across
technology and lifestyle trends – it will be a bridge
to unlocking what the future holds for the sports
 and entertainment industry. n
Designed to be one of the most technologically
advanced venues in the world when it opens in July
2020, SoFi Stadium will deploy a full end-to-end
portfolio of Cisco solutions, all built on the company’s
 secure, networking infrastructure. Cisco’s network
will allow venue operators to streamline operations,
facilitate IT and business innovation, and re-define the
live event experience for fans with new content,
 experiences and engagement opportunities.
“By partnering with Cisco, SoFi Stadium is making
a clear commitment to providing their fans with an
unparalleled and seamless experience across the entire
footprint of the property, all built on a technological
foundation that allows us to be limited only by our
collective imagination,” says Ken Martin, general
manager of Sports & Entertainment at Cisco.
In one of the first-ever true 4K deployments, Cisco
Vision will power more than 3,500 screens throughout
the stadium’s concourses, suites, concessions and
Hollywood Park, making SoFi Stadium one of the most
sophisticated venues in the world to create and deliver
media-centric experiences. With one central point of
control for all screens, SoFi Stadium and Hollywood
Park will have the ability to dynamically program every
area of the property and take a customized approach
for each screen as desired or needed.
In addition, the Cisco Connected Stadium Wi-Fi
network at SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park will
 utilize Wi-Fi 6, the next-generation wireless standard,
and be the largest deployment ever of the technology
in a sports venue. More than 2,000 access points in the
stadium and surrounding areas will deliver faster
 speeds for immersive-experience applications, a 400%
 greater capacity bandwidth,
